Getting error code 51. I think it might be related to the update yesterday. I noticed when I signed off that Steam was updating and I hit cancel because I was in a hurry to leave. The next time I played and I saw this error. I tried the two fixes up and none of the dll files I see when I search belong to Skyrim.

I've tried all the things based on this statement and can't find a solution to my problem. I've also recently upgraded to Windows 8 so the compatibility might have affected the game.

The verify integrity thing said there was 1 corrupt file and said it would reacquire it, do I need to do anything? Also, with the .dll thingy, I'm not even sure where that could be if I did have one... Please help.

error code 51

I have already tried the first two things stated as fixes for the error code 51 problem. The problem began occurring after I downloaded official nvidia drivers for my gt 630m card. The ones I had before were outdated and wouldn't allow me to use my nvidia card at all (i have an intel hd 4000 and an nvidia geforce gt 630m that's supposed to kick in during gaming). I have about 5 d3d9.dll files and none of them are in the skyrim folder so I'm not sure what to delete. I know my problem has something to do with the updated drivers but I have no idea what to do to fix this and I'm very tentative about trying to download different drivers off of anything but the official nvidia site as I don't know what's reliable and safe.

I have a copy if TESV 1.6.89 and if this is put in then I simply get a crash to desktop. Allowing steam to synchronize/update did not get me the 1.7.7 patch but did get me about 6 meg of other files/whatever. So I think this problem is somewhere in the additional files downloaded with the patch.

Load Skyrim, by TESV; Launcher or SKSE and it gets to the point where it says Bethesda Presents then restarts my computer.
I have verified cache - fine
I do not have d3d9.dll so cannot delete it.

No hardweare or drivers have been changed or updated on my computer so it must be the patch - any suggestions?
For some reason, whenever I save the game, even autosave, the screen goes black for about two seconds before resuming the game. It is very annoying. Also, the screenshots for each save game are just pictures of static.
Has the game ever worked successfully for you? Were you able to play without problems before any changes?

In your situation, my approach would be to back-up the saved files and re-install Skyrim completely. I mean entirely. Delete all local content from Steam (after backing up your saves), visit your /skyrim folder, ensure all of its contents are gone, and then re-install completely. This will wipe any modifications that were made by patches or inadvertent modifications that may be non-native, so it should get you rolling again.

I've updated my drivers, instilled the newest versions of everything and besides offering a newborn sacrifice I've done everything in my power to get this thing working. Please help?
Hey there, some questions:

1. Does it ever launch completely and work normally?
2. Do you have any mods installed?
3. Are there any error messages?
4. Have you verified the integrity of the game's cache (through Steam)?

Let me know and we can try to fix it.

You may also want to look at this guide: http://www.gamersnexus.net/features/82-swguides/846-skyrim-troubleshooting-mods
after verifying my game cache, updating drivers, getting the beta patch of skyrim, updating my steam client, defragging my game, giving the game files administrative privileges, installing Physx, repaired the C+++ thing, disabling my firewall, and probably other things too I can't remember. I've gotten Skyrim to go to the launch menu. From there I can select play, options, data files, ect... when I do select play it goes to a black screen then goes to a screen where it shows my background program (steam or internet explorer or documents, whatever I have pulled up) in a box in the center of my screen, stays there for less than a minute and then the black screen again, then goes back to my desktop or whatever I had running before. (steam, firefox, whatever.) How can I get it to successfully launch the game? I don't have any mods btw and I have an ATI Raedon HD 4200 driver.

What video card are you running? Can you provide a screenshot of the tearing? It sounds like it's either a vsync issue or, if it's severe tearing, possibly an overheating video card or something similar.
Hi, just got a new laptop and am gettng error code 51. Have disabled all backgrounds tasks and still nothing. Tried verifying game cache and running through skyrim launcher. still nothing.

@Sam: It should be in the "Steam -> SteamApps -> Skyrim" root directory. Let me know if it's not there! You may need to enable hidden files or something... to do that, hit alt (assuming win7) when Windows Explorer (a folder) is open, go to Tools -> Folder Options -> View -> Show hidden files.

@Abner: The Skyrim4GB mod is now deprecated since Skyrim natively supports larger addresses. Could you be more specific about what is broken?

@Brian: Yikes! Weird. Go to the SkyUI mod page and ensure you follow its removal/uninstallation directions. Do you have any other mods installed? You may want to go to Steam -> Properties of Skyrim -> Local Files -> Verify Integrity of the Game's Cache and make sure it's still good. If Steam says it is, I can get more specific on removal instructions... though I need to know if you have other important mods installed.

i noticed, that if you change your sa,pling rate it sometime fixes the problem of shuting down when getting to the mainmenu.

how?

controlpanel->sound->advanced tab
there's a option where you change the sampling rate.

or by leftclicking on the volume icon on the activityfield choosing playing device, and edit the "speakers" or the currently used playing device.

Gå in till kontrollpanelen, sen ljud. Ändra Standardformat till : 16 bitar, 44100 Hz så ska det hoppa igång hoppas de hjälper! Det funkade för mig iaf.

I don't have mine installed through steam. [Redacted] knowing about the stability issues before hand. And thus far with all of the issues i have had with this game as well as everyone else [Redacted] unless i can get the game working properly again.

So what i'm saying is i can't go to steam and "verify the integrity of game cache"

@Anonymous: It may be time to either contact Bethesda or Steam support... there's unfortunately not a lot I can recommend short of the above list, reinstalling, or searching for your specific bug. Skyrim is a very glitchy game and that makes it very hard to troubleshoot. You might consider searching Skyrim Nexus, but that might be a longshot.

Now when I click yes, it dissapears and the laucher stays as it is. Also, my steam apps doesn't have a skyrim launcher.
You don't have the skyrimlauncher.exe? Sounds like you should run a repair or re-install on your Skyrim (or go find the skyrimlauncher.exe file on the net - but who knows what else you are missing).

Right-click Skyrim -> Properties -> Local Files -> Verify integrity. See if that helps.

@Anonymous: What happens if you teleport into Solitude? Type coc [cellID] (pick the cell Id from here: http://www.skyrimsearch.com/cells.php or try "solitude").

Fair warning: This will disable achievements.

@Kyle: I would suggest contacting both Steam support and Bethesda support, that is a problem that I'm unfortunately able to easily solve :(
Hey there, D_star! Sorry to hear about that glitch - that's no good at all.

I'm guessing this doesn't happen with any other programs or games?

Let's try the easy fix first -- I'm not sure if this will help, but I've had similar issues to you because of it.

1 - Go to Control Panel
2 - Go to 'Sound'
3 - Speaker Properties
4 - Advanced tab
5 - Set the quality to 24 bit, 48000 quality

I've had Skyrim crash in a similar fashion by trying to play with higher sound quality settings. See if that helps.

If this doesn't fix it, I might have to get you to run some crash log utilities so we can figure out exactly why it's crashing - maybe it's power consumption.
I've already dropped the audio quality, i couldn't even run the game because i have a studio quality sound system and so was using studio settings. It wouldn't even let me start the game until that was fixed. Now i can play the game, however sometimes (at random intervals and very rarely not at all) the game will crash, my screen will go black and there will be a sound loop. I will have to hard reset my PC and lose all data since the last autosave...

Also sorry about the delay, i've been busy with work and getting ready for my next semester of ollege

I did encounter her when entering hags end, (not sure if i killed her or not) but never saw her again, and when I simply bypassed hags end, she was not anywhere to be found outside the dungeon, near the shield's location. I couldnt find any other instances of others having the same problem as me, but I suspect its linked to this teleporting hag somehow. only other crashes related to hags end, that i found, were either related to the power word wall, or the teleporting hag...
Ah, Thank you. I was hoping there might be a command to teleport away, I was worried it might not work from indoors. But that got me free, so 9 hours gameplay saved! Capital! You saved my save game. But I hope we can fix the crashes so I can complete this quest. I really cant stand the solitude home, proudespire mannor, so im counting on markath home to be a bit better. Anyway, I can fast travel back to destination "hags end". the game loads okay. But if I re-enter dungeon I become trapped again. Im not sure if i can test the wilderness area on the opposite end of hags end, because it might be innaccesable unless passing through hags end. Im not really positive where the dungeon will dump me out anyway. or i would walk there to see if the area loads.

This fix might disable your Steam achievements, fair warning:

1. Launch Skyrim and load your game (in the dungeon).
2. Open console with the ` (tilde) key.
3. Type in the following:

coc Whiterun

This will teleport you to the center of Whiterun in the event that the zone immediately outside of Hag's End is causing crash issues. If you still crash when teleporting to Whiterun, please let me know and we'll sort you out.

This is not the CTD or a BSOD error. This is an error that happens randomly throughout the game, i will be playing just fine and then suddenly both of my monitors will go black and nothing will work, there will be a sound loop if there was any sound playing and i am unable to do anything (like cntrl+alt+delete/cntrl+shift+esc/alt+tab) but restart my computer. It doesn't cause any damage to my saves other than i lose all data since my last save.

I have a gateway gt5674 with:
AMD Phenom II: 2.2 GHZ quad core
4GB DDR2 dual channel RAM
Nvidia GE Force 8800 512mb RAM (overclocked but haven't had issues with the overclock before and disabling the overclock does nothing for the crash)
windows 7 64 bit
and several 7200 RPM disc drives each dedicated either to the O.S. or the game or whatever.
I have been playing Skyrim for quite a while now, lovely game, I don't get many or any bugs, I do get a few though. Unfortunately, my game does not load any of my saves anymore. I can't even continue my game...
I looked into the problem more and it happens across ps3 and 360 as well.
According to sources, they have narrowed it down to the fact that saved files have loading problems from 6MB onwards on PC. My current game save is 10MB. I have had the problems before on different save sizes. I am wanting to know if there is anyway to get around this? I really love this game, but I can't have fun in my spare time anymore if I can not play it! Please help! Thanks for your time :)
Same thing here, would really like to know how to fix this.

@Phillip: Yikes, that sounds like a nasty bug! I've definitely seen stuff like that in Oblivion and Morrowind, but haven't yet personally encountered it with Skyrim.

My save games are about 16MB, but I'm using Skyrim4GB to launch my game, so that may make things work better. There are a few things to try here -- first things first, though:

1. Backup all your saved games to a folder on your desktop or a folder that is otherwise isolated from Skyrim, just in case something goes wrong. You don't want to lose all that work.

2. Try Skyrim 4GB -- it's the easiest thing to try and you'll notice right away whether or not it works. Link here to the mod:

3. You know how Skyrim shows a small thumbnail/preview of your saved game file when you go to load it in the main menu? Do your thumbnail/previews of your saved games look normal, or are they distorted in any way at all?

Loading screen fault!

@Josh: Can you explain the behavior? Try navigating to this folder:

C:Program FilesSteamSteamappsCommonSkyrim

Double-click on TESV.exe. What does it do when you click on it?

@Josh: If you want help, you're going to have to provide more information than that. What model of Satellite? What are your system specs? What's your video card? What settings are you trying to play Skyrim on?
