First of all, welcome to GN! What all parts will you be needing to purchase? Will you also need an operating system and monitor? Do you have a hard drive or optical drive you can reuse from another system? Do you gave a preference in AMD or Intel? If you could answer these questions it could get us find you the perfect build to fit your needs.

We have a new build up for $1060 before rebates and $962 after rebates that is an awesome build. This build should have no problems at all playing bf3 at highest settings. If you need to add an OS and/or reduce the price Im sure we could make a few changes to fit your needs.

Welcome! I'm gonna assume that u wanna spend $1000 just on the box, so i'll throw some parts together and post them soon. mikagmann2 is right, the $962 build is great, but if u want something a bit different, stay tuned for my list

Let's see what you can come up with dannyuf.

So, I know it's pushing the envelope price-wise (at almost $1300 ), but with rebates/combos and some clever amazon/microcenter/newegg parousing I'll bet u can knock that down to $1100; the extra few hundred will be worth it, cuz this build would be a major step up from the $962 one

Here's The List!

-The video card has more fans and significantly higher clocks, so you'd get better performance and cooling for the same price
-The mobo, although a tiny bit bigger (8.6" width vs. 7.9") has a substantially better selection of ports and should still fit well
-The 3770k is the top of the ivy bridge lineup, and, with a bigger l3 cache, a higher core clock, and hyperthreading capability, it'll be worth the extra cash in the long term
-It's 2012. every gaming comp. should have an ssd boot drive. period.
-The barracuda has a 64mb cache vs. the WD's 32mb; not a big deal at all, but i like seagate better
-I didn't see a cpu cooler on the $962 build o.O ...anyway, air cooling is a thing of the past. the H60 will fit comfortably on top of the phantom 410 with a 120->140mm adapter (or on the back w/o an adapter) and provide quiet cooling
-I like the phanton 410 case, but, the way I see it, picking a case is a matter of personal preference, and there are plenty of great ones to choose from!

I welcome input from anyone who'll give it!

I would not recommend getting anything less than a 60GB SDD, the OS can be half of that and only room for a few games max. I would suggest getting a 120GB SSD right now woth the prices of them at around $100. I would get a smaller HDD because the prices are inflated right now, get a smaller one now and another when prices go back to normal. Like go with a 500GB 7200rpm HDD. You didnt quite reach his needed budget of $1000 dollars. These are the changes I would make to keep his budget:

Personally this is the route I would go

CPU/MoBo Combo i5-3570k + ASRock Z77 = $349

GPU EVGA Superclocked 570 = $269

Case Corsair Carbide 400R = $100 2 blue LED 120mm fans for side = $20 We recommend at least 3 fans for proper cooling, getting the extra two for the side panel would keep your GPU a lot cooler.

PSU NZXT Hale82 750w = $90

RAM GSkill Ares 8GB 1600mhz = $47

SSD: Muskin 120GB SSD = $90

Optical Drive ASUS CD/DVD Burner = $19
Total $995.55 before rebates, $945.55 after mail in rebates.

I did not include a hard drive because with it being a gaming rig put the OS and a few games on here and you should be fine. The HDD he linked is a good deal, but the hard drive prices are a lot higher than they should be due to flooding in asia. If you have a SATA optical drive you can re-use, as well as a HDD from and older system you could upgrade other parts. This is just an alternative. Customize to fit your tastes.

Unless you plan on overclocking your CPU, there is no real need for an after market heatsink yet. You could always get one later, or if you re-use an older Optical drive, or have room in your budget we suggest you pick up one. I can help in finding the right one here as well.

-Mik is right: a 40gb SSD far from ideal, and the chronos is a better value than the one I posted
-There is plenty of perfectly viable RAM in that price range, and the Ares is just as good as the Vengeance; I think we just favor different brands
-The NZXT PSU has an 80+ gold rating vs. the Corsair's silver, so it's likely just as good or better than the one I suggested, but, although it appears to be a much better value, I'd use caution when trying to save on a PSU...
-I strongly prefer the Gigabyte GTX 570 over the EVGA one even though its more expensive, because 3 fans will provide better, quieter cooling than 1
-Corsair makes great cases, and, like I said, it's a matter of personal preference, but I think the Phantom is more stylish
-Yeah the Thailand flooding certainly didn't help HDD prices, but I wouldn't bother waiting a year to save ~$40. that's just me though
-If it were up to me, I'd do away with air cooling for good. U can get a decent air cooler for half the price of the H60, but spend an extra $30 and you get quieter, more effective (not to mention overclockable/futureproof) cooling
-Yeah, I stretched the budget, but you have to admit that I took the system in a much more enthusiast-oriented direction, and the benchmarks would reflect that. It's obvious that Mik knows what he's talking about and his system is fantastic for the money if you don't have that extra $200+

I was not trying to say your build was not good, it is a great enthusiast build for sure. I picked the Hale82 PSU due to the awesome warranty that NZXT offers and the great reviews it has been getting. NZXT is one of my favorite companies, and I like the case you selected too, I just like throwing out options.

I would not say to do away with air cooling, the H60 only cools the CPU, the rest of the system needs to be cooled down as well. To be honest, unless you are doing serious overclocking, I would not get liguid cooling if I were sticking to a budget. That is just my opinion though. I have the Hyper 212 heatsink on my CPU and it keeps it cool even with my CPU overclocked from 3.6 to 4.6 on air. It is not as loud as you might think either, if you have one 120mm fan, then the rest of them kinda sound the same. I am pushing 9 120mm fans and it is just a low hum that I find soothing lol.

What it all comes down to is personal taste, and I love EVGA, they are nvidia's preferred brand in GPUs. We usually stick to name brands that have been good to us in the past, again this is a personal taste as well as experience.

BTW I love your avatar dannyuf, The Professional is one of my favorite movies!
