TOPIC: Help

Help 9 months, 1 week ago #9405

Alright having problem with my upgrade. When I turn it on (new case) It would turn for a few sec with the fans running and then it would turn off and reset, it keeps doing that. Any idea?

My old case
Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz CPU
CORSAIR H80 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570

New case I upgraded:

Intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge 3.5GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4000

EVGA NVIDIA Geforce GTX 680
Corsair H100

Using the same motherboard ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS.

Is the Ivy Bridge compatible with my motherboard.

The motherboard being compatible should not be an issue. Looks like to me, from what you describe that something wasnt seated properly. I would try take out the CPU again and make sure it is seated back into the socket properly. While I was at it I would check all of the connections to make sure no other component was disconnected when you upgraded. Just at first glance though, it sounds like the new chip isnt set right. Or the CPU power cord is not.

Are sure with my motherboard because after unplugging and plugging cable back, removing the Intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge and placing it back in I will still get the same result. I decided to try my old Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge and it works out fine. I am pretty sure I was careful when placing the cpu into the motherboard.

Reading the comments on newegg and I saw this

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the issue you had with the motherboard.

As of writing, we have released updated BIOS that support Ivy Bridge CPU's:

Core i7-3770 (3.4G,L3:8M,iGPU,4C,HT.VT-d,77W,rev.E1) and Core i7-3770K (3.5G,L3:8M,iGPU,4C,HT,77W,rev.E1). The motherboards that were purchased may have an older BIOS that did not have support for these CPU's.

If you have an older Intel CPU (see the motherboard's CPU Support List), you may use it to boot to UEFI and flash the new BIOS

Now is that case I would boot up my computer and download the update with my Intel I5-2500k Sandy Bridge.

Update: Fixed had to update the Bios for it to work with the Ivy Bridge cpu. Mad mission. lol sucks now I have to put back my H100 in pain in the butt.

Yeah I didnt think it was the motherboard as in a bad motherboard. What you described was in the CPU, and an updated bios is an easy thing to overlook. Good thing is it is easy to fix as well. Glad you got it worked out though!
