Hi guys I've got an MSI Xpower Gaming Titanium board and I'm using a 7700K cpu which only offers support for a max of 16 pcie lanes I'm also using a 960 evo 500gb m.2 for my main drive, there is another slot for an additional m.2 if I add another drive will it affect any of my pcie lanes. Any loss of performance for my gpu. Thanks hope that's not too weird of a question..enjoy

No worries - a lot of people get confused by "all those lanes".

The short answer: It won't affect the GPU, but everything else.

Let me explain:
The CPU "supplies" 16x lanes for your (physical) PCIe-Slots and an additional 4x for DMI. DMI is basically used for your Chipset, i.e. SATA, USB and M.2 (on this board).

The catch now is: Plugging in another M.2 will not affect your GPU whatsoever, as it's running on "the other" lanes. But it will affect your other M.2, Sata and USB drives, because they all share only 4x Lanes, which can already be maxed out with just one of your SSDs.

If you add another SSD, the two m.2 will run fine and unless you have software that really maxes out the read/write speed on both drives simultaneously, you won't notice the "bottleneck".

If you DO need (or want) the max. possible speed for both drives, you could buy a m.2->pcie adapter card and plug it into one of the pcie slots. This would allow you to bypass the DMI and run the second ssd over the 16x lanes provided by the cpu.

Your GPU will then run at 8x, but as i7Baby pointed out, the difference between 16x and 8x is almost immeassurable for GPUs.

And keep in mind, that adding an m.2 device will turn off some of your SATA ports. (More info in your MB manual, page 36), so you would be limited to only two additional Sata devices in the future, if you choose to use both m.2 slots.
