I'm torn between a 34" 2560x1080p ultrawide at 144hz vs a 27" inch 2560x1440p 144hz

(SIDE NOTE) I'm planning on going with the RX Vega instead of the 1080ti its just in there for price.

Any suggestions or opinions are welcomed

Thanks in advanced!!

Nice build. But I'd get the ram I got (2x8g GSkill 3200-14).

For competitive gaming, get the faster monitor. Otherwise, get the 1440p. A 1080Ti on a 1080p monitor is a waste. A 1070 would be fine for 1080p.

I use my 3440x1440 LG for a bit of gaming and for video production. I just traded up from a 1080p monitor to this.

the ram im set on i got a decent deal so im sticking with it for now until i have more money, so do you think the vega 64 would be to much for the 2560x1080p 144hz or do u think id be good i like ultra wide for the immersion of the game

The RX Vega 64 should be a bit better than a gxt1080. It'd be wasted on a 1080p monitor.

I run R9 Nanos. They run games at about the same fps at gtx980s. I don't game much, but one R9 Nano can run 3440x1440 at 60fps. A 1080 could run most games at high detail on 2560x1440 well over 60fps. I'd expect the Vega to do the same.

2x8gb ram runs better on ryzen than 4x4gb - www.legitreviews.com/wp-content/uploads/...4-memory-support.jpg

"Damn it, he's right" :mrgreen:

Yeah, because a GTX 1080 (or Vega, which I expect to be somewhere around the same) can run most games with ~100fps at 1440p, a screen with 1080p doesn't make much sense.

Also, some games don't like 21:9 resolutions (looking at you, Counter Strike and Fallout 4) and most content on Youtube, twitch, etc is also "only" 16:9, leaving you with black borders or a small, not really usable bit of desktop.

Don't get me wrong - I love my 21:9 Monitor: It's great for games that run 21:9 and Movies (because the 21:9 resolution is Almost the same as Cinema Format). But 16:9 is just a better choice for general usage and you don't really miss out on all that much if you don't have ultrawide.

If I were to buy a new Monitor today, I would not go below 1440p pr 100Hz, because (at least in my case) the Monitor usually outlasts multiple GPUs - so if the GPU isn't quite powerful enough to run it maxed out, it will be - after the next upgrade. (Which is why I have a 1080p Monitor and a GTX 1080ti :-D ).

TL:DR;
The 27" 1440p 144Hz makes more sense then the 34" 1080p Monitor. But since performance-information about RX Vega is (most likely) to come soon, I recommend waiting for Reviews and Tests to come out before buying anything -
especially if you buy a new Panel and use want to use FreeSync (which obviously wouldn't work if you change your mind and decide to go with a GTX 1080ti instead).
