MSI GTX 1060 3G Armor & Gaming X Specs

Posted on August 20, 2016

MSI has announced it will be releasing five new GTX 1060 3GB cards. The new Pascal video cards are set for an August release, and they will take on AMD’s 4GB RX 480 in the $200 - $250 market. The MSRP for the GTX 1060 3GB cards will be $200, but some cards may be priced higher to account for pre-overclocks and AIB partner value adds, like improved cooling.

The GTX 1060 3GB cards have 1152 CUDA cores, operating at a base clock of 1506MHz and a boost clock of 1708MHz – the same as the 6GB model, but with 128 fewer cores. MSI, like other AIB partners, will offer factory overclocked cards coupled with brand heatsinks.

MSI will give buyers five different GTX 1060 3GB cards to choose from. Two of the cards will be factory overclocked and will sport MSI’s Twin Frozr VI cooler. These cards are the 1060 3GB GAMING X 3G and the GAMING 3G. The GAMING X 3G has a base clock of 1594MHz and a boost clock of 1809MHz, while the GAMING 3G has a base clock of 1531MHz and a boost clock of 1746MHz. The GAMING series cards will both have an RGB logo which can be customized via MSI’s GAMING APP. Lastly, both cards will have custom PCBs with a 6-phase power design.

The Twin Frozr VI cooler performed well in the recent cards we've tested. In our review of the GTX 1080 GAMING video card, we found that the Twin Frozr VI cooler provided ~12C better cooling than the Founders Edition card.

Two of MSI’s GTX 1060s will have the ARMOR 2X cooler. The ARMOR 3GV1 will run at reference speeds of 1506MHz base and 1708MHz boost. MSI’s ARMOR 3G OCV1, on the other hand, will be factory overclocked and have a base clock of 1544 MHz and a boost clock of 1759 MHz.

The last card that was announced is the GTX 1060 3GT OC. This card is overclocked to have a base clock of 1544 MHz and a boost clock of 1759 MHz. The card has a dual fan cooler, which looks similar to the ARMOR GTX 1060 OCV1, but its shroud is slightly different.
