G.Skill Trident Line Expands to 4266MHz for Kaby Lake | CES 2017

Posted on January 6, 2017

We recently reported on G.SKILL’s announcement of the new Trident Z RGB series of memory. G.SKILL has now announced their high-end Trident Z DDR4 DIMMs designed for Kaby Lake CPUs and Z270 chipset motherboards.

For the launch of Kaby Lake and the Z270 chipset, G.SKILL will offer various dual-channel kits in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB options. The modules themselves will only come in 8 or 16GB densities; a rejoinder of sorts on behalf of G.SKILL, pertaining to their claims of  mainstream popularity for 16GB and 32GB memory kits. As seen below, kits clocked at 4000MHz and beyond will only be offered in configurations of 8GB modules.

CL timings are far from lean, but not altogether unexpected given the high clock-rates. The modules will, of course, support XMP 2.0 technology. This will make for simple work enabling overclocked profiles and sub-timings. The memory modules will feature the classic Trident Z aluminum heat spreaders, and RGB lighting will be offered as well.

G.SKILL has tested and validated their new Trident Z memory (specifically the 4266MHz, 16GB kit) on the ASUS ROG Maximus IX Apex motherboard and the i7-7700K. Another test consisted of the ASUS ROG Maximus IX Formula and the i5-7600K, using the 4133MHz, 32 GB kit.

The DDR4-4266MHz, 16GB (8x2) kit is already listed at Newegg for $250.
