Re-Spec Your Skyrim Character, Change Race, Appearance

Posted on December 10, 2011

For those of you contemplating your character's existence in Skyrim, this small utility lets you change your race, skills, health, magicka, stamina, gold, appearance, and much more in TES V. This nifty program was added to Skyrim Nexus just recently. Here's the break-down.

Before continuing, we highly recommend that you back up your saved game files. This utility controls a lot of the game's properties, so you need to be careful and back things up. Most commonly, the save game location for Skyrim is as follows (assuming Windows 7):

C:\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Saves\

That said, let's get tweaking! Download the Skyrim Character Editor here, then follow these usage instructions:

  • Modify the value you want to change in the program.
  • When you're done, go to "Save" tab and press "save" button.
  • On your desktop, now there is a file called "save_edit.txt"
  • Move it on your skyrim main dir (example: C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Skyrim).
  • Start Skyrim and load a savegame.
  • When loading is done, press ` (tilde) to open console.
  • Write: bat save_edit.txt
  • Press enter. Done.

Now, of course, this program gives you the ability to hack your character and cheat heavily, so if you're susceptible to those urges and don't wish it to happen, you will either have to control yourself or step away from the browser. If that's what you wanted to do anyway, enjoy!

Let us know below if you experience any difficulties and tell us what you do to your characters! I've been considering a Khajiit. . .
