Divinity: Dragon Commander Pre-Orders Live [Strategy]

Posted on July 1, 2013

It's been a while since we reviewed Divinity II, but the developers over at Larian have been hard at work on their upcoming strategy/tactical hybrid. Divinity: Dragon Commander sees a return to the known universe, but this time with the player in charge of land, sea, and air armies in strategic conflicts.

If that's not enough, the classic dragon-flight mechanics make a return to the series (and offer multiplayer), this time with more tactical objectives standing in the way of victory.

Here's a new video from the developers:

The game is classified as an RTS, and as such, features building construction, resource collection, and unit training and combat. The micro/macro aspect doesn't appear as central to this RTS as in certain other RTS games, but is certainly still a large part of gameplay.

There's a good mix of background story as a result of the series' years on the shelf, but strategy still sits at the game's heart. Some deck building/card playing elements make an appearance alongside advisor interactions and normal RTS gameplay, so it's definitely got a mix of all the right elements.
