Rockstar Leeds Says GTA: Chinatown Wars this Fall

Posted on June 22, 2009

You know it for being one of the most controversial titles in gaming, you know it for the hot coffee scandal, you even know it for just being a wicked game - and now it's on the PSP.  Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars was announced today by Rockstar: Leeds, and is said to be available for the PSP sometime this fall.

Rockstar Games noted that the game will have new story missions and graphics, but has held back any screenshot evidence of this.  Rockstar, we dare you to release some screenshots!  The developer says Chinatown Wars will be available both on disc and for direct download. Chinatown Wars was the highest-ever rated game on the DS so far, and now it is being ported to a platform that is likely more suited to the fast-paced action the GTA series has come known for.

Unfortunately, Chinatown Wars sold just over 89,000 copies for the DS during its first month on the shelves, potentially proving long-standing beliefs that the DS is not as well suited for M-rated gaming as other platforms.

CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America Jack Tretton admitted that "Rockstar's work with the GTA series has been an enormous part of the success of PlayStation platforms.  We're excited to welcome the critically acclaimed Chinatown Wars to the outstanding line-up of great games headed to the PSP platform this fall."

Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games, stated that Rockstar is "proud to extend this truly unique handheld Grand Theft Auto experience to PSP and offer a downloadable version of Chinatown Wars for PSPgo."  He went on to add, "Rockstar Leeds has shown incredible talent in creating games that raise the bar in terms of depth and innovation on portables," Houser also confirmed our hopes with the best part, "we have a rich, fast-paced, and incredibly addictive entry into the series."

Everyone give it up for GN's very own CyberGrim, an employee at Rockstar Leeds, who somehow managed to bite his tongue the whole time!

We look forward to trying the game on the PSP this fall.

Here's the DS trailer to keep you excited for now, but note, this is the DS (not the PSP) trailer.
