Divinity: Original Sin II Gets Game Master Mode for Dungeon Creation

Posted on September 30, 2015

Divinity: Original Sin 2’s Kickstarter campaign has just wrapped up, and Larian Studios pulled in just over $2 million. For those not familiar with the first game, Divinity: Original Sin was a turn-based RPG that was met with critical acclaim. It pulled in nearly every award it could when it was released two years ago, recognized primarily for its traditional RPG throwbacks and character progression.

Thanks to fans, Larian was able to meet all their stretch goals for the second game. Amongst these, players of the sequel will have access to a new playable race -- the Undead -- as well as their playable area, the Hall of Echoes. Two new skill trees, new racial skills, and expanded Love & Hate relationships have been added.

More interestingly is the addition of a Game Master’s mode. If you’ve followed our coverage of Sword Coast Legends at all -- then you probably know we’re cautiously optimistic about a similar feature in the n-space game.

Divinity: Original Sin 2’s final stretch goal was GM mode, enabling a GM to create a dungeon and place enemies for other players to face down. The system in SCL has been designed to make the experience enjoyable -- as opposed to competitive -- but we don’t have the details on how it will work in Divinity: Original Sin 2.

There’s no official release date for DOS II, but it is expected in 2016.
