Din's Curse is one of those indie games that you can sit down and play at any interval of time, but most importantly, it is one of those games that has minimal system requirements - all the gameplay entertainment in all the right places, including my laptop running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.
When I saw that developer Soldak Entertainment listed WINE for Linux (a Windows-type emulator) as a potential candidate to run Din's Curse, I had my doubts. Playing Windows-based games on a Linux machine is very sketchy, and WINE has a running streak of issues with a majority of the games. It also has the highest success rating (of which I am currently aware) for getting them to work, so the utility deserves some credit. I loaded up the .exe for DC on our way to the mountains today, and luckily (after some fighting with the graphics), I was able to get the game up and running and load my characters. I slew many a demonic being from the confines of my horseless carriage.
I'm a huge fan of anything Open Source, and Ubuntu has my blessing. That said, I'm a much bigger fan of anything that runs my games - if Ubuntu occasionally takes place of Windows, that's just fine with me. However rare that may be...
