Crashing, lagging, and glitching to victory

We've all been there before, especially in online driving games, where synchronization is a must: lagging to victory. Sure, lag can be the penultimate immersion destroyer, the worst enemy in a gun fight, and cause you to smash up against buildings while racing, but it also works the other way. Teleportation is a sweet thing.

If I ever decide to review APB, and I likely will, the ill-timed game and system crashes will certainly damage its score. I initially tried to deduce what was causing thRead More...

Retrospective: Morrowind

Alright, enough blog posts about APB recently. Here's something different. This story takes place - uh... a long time ago - in Morrowind (duh) on the original Xbox (unfortunately, those loading times sucked).

I traveled north from Vos, on some long forgotten mission. As I neared the sea, a fantastic Deadric ruin appeared on the horizon. I was a spellsword, primarily a mage but often reliant on my powerful summoned dagger. I had stolen a full set of priceleRead More...

APB group composition. Part 2

As stated previously this is for criminals only.

Group size:2

Player 1:

Primary weapon: OCA

Reasoning: This gun is unstoppable at close range and since many areas you fight in will be CQC this gun becomes a no-brainer. This player will probably complete most of the objectives with the other player covering him as this player will primarily be confined to low to mid range fighting.

Secondary weapon:S-AS

Reasoning: This player will bRead More...

Bored in Kentucky: APB group composition. Part 1

I am extremely bored so I decided to write down some of my thoughts on the best group setups in APB from my experience. I will do this in parts due to the random family things I keep getting pulled into.

*These are all for criminal players*

One person setup:

Primary Weapon: OCA/Ntec

Reasoning: This gives you the greatest amount of versatility which is a necessity when you have to take on one person at varying locations with differing amounts of cover and at dRead More...

How I would balance A.P.B.

This will all be in bullet point form and the order does not symbolize its importance. I will not mention things such as lag since I don't know to fix that :P

Gameplay changes:

-Give players called in as back up the ability to call in back up as well to counter people calling in for back up then going afk which often results in a mission loss.

-Allow the group leader to kick members of the back up squad within the first 45 seconds after they join to get rid of afk playersRead More...

I just picked up the HVR a few days ago and I have been using for most of those days. I will real quickly go over its pros and cons as well as how I think it should be used.

Pros:

-Longest range

-Highest damage per a shot(2 shot kill even with hp upgrades)

-Best accuracy

Cons:

-Bolt action

-Must be reloaded before switching weapons

-Slows movement speed when equipped

-Very situational

-Poor at taking out enemies by itself dRead More...

Din's Curse on WINE

Din's Curse is one of those indie games that you can sit down and play at any interval of time, but most importantly, it is one of those games that has minimal system requirements - all the gameplay entertainment in all the right places, including my laptop running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

When I saw that developer Soldak Entertainment listed WINE for Linux (a Windows-type emulator) as a potential candidate to run Din's Curse, I had my doubts.
My frustration with APB matchmaking.

So after putting in 10 hours of APB since its release I have come to realize one thing. The matchmaking system sucks. From the very beginning I have been matched up with people that carried much more powerful upgraded weapons while I carried around a stock weapon. It makes every fight extremely hard. I mean who wants to fight against someone with a fully upgraded OCA(mp5) and stun gun when they just have a revolver and a stock sniper. It is extremely obnoxious. I can lose to players who are mRead More...

Crouching Tiny Hidden Dancer

So my sister and a few of her friends started playing League a few days ago so in order to help initiate them I decided to create a new account and play along side of them; this not only allowed me to dominate newbs from a disguise but also allowed them to play people more their level and gave me 3 referrals on their way to level 10.
My Love/Hate Relationship with Norton

Thanks to the popular gaming website Gamers Hell, I have now thoroughly infected my primary gaming and development PC with spyware, rootkits, and back-door trojans. I've tried just about everything to fix it: Avast pre-boot scan, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, SuperAntiSpyware, Spybot Search & Destroy, several diagnostic tools, and now Norton 360 4.0.

The good thing is, I have learned an incredible amount about anti-spyware and removal tools.
Best 'D&D' Cameo Ever?

Ok, so it wasn't Dungeons & Dragons, but it was a tabletop RPG. I am running a futuristic cyberpunk campaign (which you will hear more about soon) loosely based around the game Dystopia, the book 1984, and my own experience in the corporate world. We're using the Savage Worlds system. Believe me, this was the best cameo ever.

The players were trapped.
Damned Solo Queue

I hate solo queue. It's that simple. You're Doing good and then all of the sudden and then the fabulous solo queue decides to stick you with people who try to go dps Taric or something equally (and probably moreso) ridiculous. I'm on about my fourth loss in a row here thanks to just awful teammates. This isn't even an excuse "oh my team's bad" this is genuine non-skilled players who have 1000 wins so they rank up with me through some flawed logic.
GG no RE column coming up

The new GG no RE (good game, no rematch) column is in the preparatory stages. The first article is about overhype in the gaming industry and how it can obliterate a solid concept. Here's an excerpt to get you interested:

"All inputs accrue an output, and the output of hype is speculation. Gamers have a powerful tool at their fingertips; actually, it's probably under them right now. At the blink of an eye, you could have your Xfire or Steam friendslist opeRead More...

So I'm playing King's Quest 7, which is a 16 year old game. I'm at a part where you have to take a lit bomb and bring it to a tomb to blow it up. The thing is the timer for the bomb is based on CPU speed and since this game is 16 years old the bomb blows up with in .5 seconds. So now I am opening as many things as I can to slow my computer down. Life is weird sometimes.
