Gaming Hardware Sales – Power Supplies & Cooling on the Cheap

Posted on July 25, 2015

All the major manufacturers seem to be playing into the whole “it's hot outside, let's turn that into a sale” gimmick. This week, that means a lot of cooling on sale, including the deprecated Hyper 212 Plus for $20.

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus ($20): It's not our favorite CPU cooler these days, but has served its purpose as a mainstay budget cooler for quick replacement of the less-than-desirable stock coolers on Intel and AMD CPUs. For those looking to avoid investing much thought or money into a CPU cooler that “just gets the job done” (a good bit better than stock), this is a worthwhile consideration.

Corsair CX600 PSU ($37): After a $20 MIR and $8 promo code (use EMCAVNK32 at checkout), the CX600 falls to $37 for a modest 600W PSU. 80 Plus Bronze offers a slight level of power efficiency without increasing cost tremendously, making for a good fit in scalable budget builds.

Rosewill Photon-750 PSU ($80): After code EMCAVNK46 at checkout, Rosewill's Photon PSU falls to $80 for a 750W, 80 Plus Gold unit. The main draw of this power supply is its full modularity (all cables detachable) and power efficiency.

Just a short list for this weekend while we continue pushing through some tests on new hardware. Bigger news in a few days.
