Korean studio XL Games offered Korean and Japanese gamers a chance to enjoy the freedom of creating a player-specific experience while enjoying core MMORPG gameplay when they released ArcheAge last year. Bay Area-based studio Trion Worlds (End of Nations, Rift, Defiance) has been working with XL Games ever since to bring the sandbox MMORPG to Western audiences.

We caught up with Producer Victoria Voss at last week’s Game Developers Conference to learn more about and the game’s extensive crafting skills, XP system, and unique treatment of crime and punishment.

Mozilla has spent the last year expanding and improving its support of browser-based gaming with JavaScript-derived asm.js, Emscripten (cross-compiler for C and C++ games to run in browsers), and the WebGL standard. At this year’s Game Developer’s Conference, Mozilla demoed its support for Unreal Engine 4 technology and games using the upcoming Unity 5.0 engine. I had played through Episode 1, Faith, and was delighted by its gripping storyline, superb visuals, and a dynamic (but buggy) dialogue wheel. Episode 2, Smoke & Mirrors, adheres to its predecessor’s formula and further tests the relationships of Bigby and his Fabletown peers, and although it culminates in another well-devised cliffhanger, it makes me doubt the impact of my actions on future episodes.

Necrophone Games has announced that its upcoming first-person adventure-comedy game Jazzpunk will be available for purchase through Steam and other sites on February 7.

Jazzpunk is set an alternative Cold War universe that integrates cyberpunk themes and gameplay. Players assume the role of Agent Polyblank and are tasked with a variety of missions, puzzle solving, and mini-games.
