Which Processor do you guys think will work out better with the new generation "1180 x 2080"?

Ryzen 7 2700X with more cores and threads

or

Intel i7 8700k

We know that for Gtx 1080 ti, the intel 8700k does better in games. I am in doubt which processor to buy, I will wait for the new generation of gpu's in July.

*At 1080p

At higher resolutions and settings, the difference becomes "bugger all" and depends mostly on the GPU, Memory and Software (Game engine).

At the moment, AMD offers better value with potential future proofing (more cores),
while Intel has (slightly) better performance (IPCs and clocks) and more play for Overclocking (delidding and co).

If games start to utilise those cores more efficiently and Intel keeps up with the poor IHS/TIM performance, AMD would be better.
If they keep on using the same Game engines, poorly optimise and Intel is solderd or delidded, it's the opposite.

At the moment, it's a toss (either CPU is decent) so I would check in a few months, if anything changed.

Both i7-8700k & Ryzen 2700x CPUs can and will push 1080Ti (or "1180/2080") for great gaming performance.

The 2700x is a real contender to compete with 8700k.

Can't really go wrong with either one ... more a matter of what you will use the rig for (gaming [which games and at what resolutions] vs productivity).

"Which Processor do you guys think will work out better with the new generation "1180 x 2080"?" It's really an comparable match (would be hard to nail down which will work "better" with the new GPU). More a limitation of games (note that many games do not take advantage of lots of extra cores).

If you ask me my preference, it would be for i7-8700k (I am biased towards intel). I prefer the edge in gaming performance and I fun OC'ing. It's ridiculously fast ... as I imagine the 2700x is as well--with added productivity boost from more cores/threads.

I think 2700x is better choice.

Well, bad news for ya:
Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang has quashed rumours that we might be about to see the release of the company’s long awaited Volta GPUs. Speaking at Computer 2018 the CEO said the release of the new cards is “a long time” away, suggesting that we might not see the new cards until the latter half of 2018.
