The school has a whole program dedicated to getting noobs into the gaming industry early. Since the Triangle has become a gaming hub, local colleges have fabricated these classes (likely in part funded by the local gaming companies, such as Epic and Red Storm) for student enjoyment. This semester I'm only taking one SGD class (SGD-116), here's its description:
"This course introduces students to computer-based graphic design tools and their use within the context of simulation and game design. Topics include texture creation, map creation, and introduction to advanced level graphic design techniques. Upon completion, students should be able to competently use and explain industry-standard graphic design software."
I know that the school is using Unreal Engine 3 and some other cool mapping software, I'll keep you guys posted as things progress! For those who care, my other classes are: Astronomy, English, and Trig. Pretty lame, right? I'm looking forward to this gaming stuff.
