Time to Update AMD & NVIDIA Drivers for Windows 10 - Details Within

Posted on July 31, 2015

Windows 10 was officially released yesterday. With Windows 10 comes DirectX12 and some other changes, such as Xbox Live for the PC. Of course, Windows 10 (and Dx12) also requires new drivers. Both AMD and nVidia have released drivers within the last week to support Windows 10. Because Windows 7 and 8.1 users can upgrade to Windows 10 for free within a year, these drivers are significant to migration as a potentially large portion of users will be shifting simultaneously.

We’ll first cover AMD’s newest 15.7.1 driver, then nVidia’s 353.62 driver.

AMD 15.7.1 Driver

AMD’s newest drivers support Windows 10 and DirectX 12 for all GCN GPUs (HD 7000 and newer).

AMD’s newest drivers also note performance optimizations in Counter Strike: Global Offensive. Other than this, the driver resolves some issues with Mantle games, Crossfire, and BSODs. AMD’s 15.7.1 driver can be downloaded here.

nVidia 353.62 Driver

NVidia’s latest driver has a larger change list. It improved multiple SLI profiles, including those for Assassin's Creed Unity, Metro Last Light, and Batman Arkham Knight, and also adds Dx12 support.

These new drivers support Windows 10 and DirectX 12 and, as said by nVidia, are “Game Ready” drivers for Windows 10. NVidia’s driver download can be found here.

Closing Words

Ultimately, AMD and nVidia’s latest driver releases aren’t the biggest news, but they’re still relevant. They fully support Windows 10 and support DX12 for compatible GPUs. The day 1 official release Windows 10 support is what’s most significant about these drives. Most of the other changes are small and not out of the ordinary. Despite there being no monumental changes from previous drivers, there is no harm in getting the latest drivers due to bug fixes and performance updates. Plus, users upgrading to Windows 10 will want to get the latest drivers to support it.
