A recent tweet by Respawn Entertainment noted that split-screen will not make the cut for the impending mech combat FPS; this is likely due to programmatic complications outweighing the benefit of local play on relevant consoles. A Bungie (Halo) programmer previously stated that ditching split-screen "would simplify my job immensely [...] not to mention, give me more time to work on cool, new things. With split-screen, every piece of functionality in the render engine has to be able to handle different resolutions, which can get especially hairy when you're optimizing things down to the render target tile size."

Split-screen isn't just a toggle -- the entire game has to be able to handle quadruple the vertices and must be optimized specifically for the game mode.

In other Titanfall news, a recent interview with XB1.co.uk yielded the following statement from Senior Map Designer Mohammad Alavi:

"Titanfall will most definitely have an ending. It’s not a story if it doesn’t have an ending, but there are multiple sides to that story. It’s told from both the Militia and IMC perspectives, and to fully grasp Titanfall’s campaign, you’ll need to play it from both sides."

Titanfall's release date is set for March 11, 2014.
