Steam Introduces “Curators,” More Customized Money-Siphoning Experience

Posted on September 23, 2014

Innovators in wallet abuse by owners, Valve today announced an update to its client that aids in streamlining the discovery of new titles. “Discovery” is one of the more tangible benefits of real-world shopping that has been lost to the sands of time (or EB Games); there’s a very distinct, satisfying experience that accompanies finding a new title, buying it, and taking a chance. Steam hopes to bring eyes to its thousands of titles with greater ease, noting that the company has brought-on more than 1300 games in just nine months.

The update includes improved related content browsing, theoretically guiding you more rapidly toward related content (or toward the most trolling shopping experience in history, depending on how gamers react). Using the tags system (recently introduced), a glorified “hot or not” wishlist of games, recent playtime (hours), games owned vs. played, and a “curators” system, Steam hopes to personalize home pages for more relevant results.

Curators are Steam’s reviewers, critics, and community icons who are the most active on various game pages. Users can follow Curators with similar interests to find reviews and new games.

The update should be live effective immediately.
