Star Wars Battlefront Closed Alpha Registration is Open for PC

It’s time to pick up the blasters and lightsabers again. After 10 years, the Star Wars “Battlefront” franchise is returning to something bigger than a handheld device. Initially announced two years ago, EA is now sending out invitations to a closed alpha test for the PC version of Star Wars Battlefront. You can join in by signing up at starwars.ea.com.

Fans of the series, however, should remain cautious of pre-order given recent rumors. Specifically of note, the monstrous AT-ATs players can pilot will follow rails (can’t be free-piloted) and neither space battles nor galactic conquest will be playable in the initial build of the game.

While you may have to leave your dreams of mechanical wanderlust and starships behind -- at least for now -- you can at least sign-up (Origin account necessary) and try and join in on the action. Be warned that many are being rejected with letters claiming that "The Star Wars Battlefront Closed Alpha is a technical test and is available for a small number of users.” It is likely that EA is seeking specific hardware configurations.

Even if you don’t get into the game early, the full release is coming up on November 17 (in North America). And, like any good triple-A release, DLC has already been announced for the following month, titled Battle of Jakku.
