Plays.tv is a program designed to record game footage and provide basic editing capabilities. It's a simple concept, which is one of the main advantages it holds over its competitors – often an amalgamation of ShadowPlay / GVR and Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere.

At a GDC press event today, Intel showcased its first Iris Pro-enabled CPU on a desktop motherboard -- socketed -- alongside Dx12 updates and gameplay capture advancements. The spotlight reaffirmed Intel’s commitment to LGA-socketed CPUs for the immediate future, offering desktop users with low TDP requirements a high-powered CPU and IGP solution. Valve further emboldened its argument by pointing toward Steam’s hardware survey, which now shows Intel’s graphics solution as consuming approximately 20% of the GPU cross-section. NVIDIA holds the majority of GPU marketshare.

Raptr has once again released their list of most played games for January. This month the names are unchanged, but their numbers certainly aren’t.

AMD's Gaming Evolved software application – a partnership with Raptr – has been compromised in a security exploit and is encouraging users to change passwords. The utility is used for game video capture (similar to ShadowPlay, but web-enabled), but also enables easier drive management and game-hardware integration (settings optimization for video cards, similar to GeForce Experience).

Raptr is back with their Most Played Games stats for the month of December, showing a rise for WoW, Hearthstone, and CSGO.

Raptr has just posted its Most Played PC Games for November 2014, a list on which World of Warcraft continues to shine.

The “Most Played” list captures the total amount of time Raptr users spend playing a given game.

World of Warcraft (#2) continued its climb up the charts following the release the Warlords of Draenor expansion. Since its release, playtime has nearly doubled.

Raptr has just posted its Most Played PC Games for October 2014, a list highlighted by the release of FIFA 15 and a 75 percent-off sale for PAYDAY 2.

The monthly top dog, League of Legends, hosted its LCS playoffs last month, helping increase its Share by 2.82 percent over July. "Share" represents gameplay time as a percentage of the total time spent on all the PC games played by Raptr members.

Raptr has just posted its Most Played PC Games for July 2014, and from the looks of it, things only get better for the best of the best. Playtime for the top four games has increased 30 percent overall.

League of Legends got a boost from its Doom Bots of Doom enhancement that increased the AI difficulty to an uncomfortably high level.

DOTA 2’s The International Tournament brought up attention and participation, particularly in mid-July.

FRAPS has been in the gameplay capture business for over a decade now, inarguably serving as the best solution for early gameplay video recordings. The advent of casual streaming and competitive eSports has finally pushed recorded game content to widespread consumption. ISP-provided datarates have mostly stabilized to usable levels, which helps in production and consumption of high bit-rate content.

ShadowPlay was announced as a FRAPS alternative last year by nVidia, and is only compatible with nVidia devices. The tool uses an integrated H.264 video encoder on Kepler and Maxwell hardware, ensuring most the performance drag is loaded on the GPU rather than the CPU; moreover, it's being loaded on specific components of the GPU that are built for video encoding and largely unused while gaming.

FRAPS does no live encoding and only records raw data output, which theoretically means it will have the best quality (lossless), but also demands the most resources in storage and CPU cycles.
