The next installment in the Total War series has been revealed as one that details a darker chapter in history: The reign the Huns.
It's not often that I get a break from benchmarking games so that I can actually play them. That's normally Nick Pinkerton's job, our Senior Editor tasked with handling our game content these days. Civilization is an interesting game to benchmark; it's always been regarded as CPU-intensive due to the heavy processing done between turns and has GPU-intensive buffer requirements for map movement. For some unknown reason, GN staff decided to actually play the game.
We've certainly done worse.
Chaos brimmed from Respawn Entertainment's Titanfall servers this weekend as players invited to the beta (which is now open) ventured into the game to try it out. Despite serious initial video issues and other bugs and odd benchmark performance, Titanfall's gameplay can at times be relatively smooth and strategic.

Recently I was allowed a sneak peek into the second closed-beta for a new Turn-Based Strategy game called Horizon. I haven't been as excited to play a TBS game since the original Rome: Total War, which are some pretty big, Legionnaire-like shoes to fit into. With ten races to choose from in this cosmic 4X turn-based game, my biggest fear going in was whether or not L3O Interactive would achieve making each race feel unique and challenging to players in various ways.
Horizon is a strategy game in which the player chooses a race and goes about trying to take over the galaxy through diplomacy, trade, or war. Standard 4X (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate) stuff.
