NVidia 361.75 Driver Launch Moves to External GPU Support

Posted on January 27, 2016

Our CES coverage unveiled Razer's new external graphics enclosure, a budding industry trend over the past few years. The external GPU enclosures mostly rely upon the Thunderbolt 3 protocol for its 40Gbps throughput, which allows external dGPUs to act effectively at the speed of an x4 PCI-e 3.0 lane assignment (roughly 6% slower than x16 for most games). To function along the protocol externally requires driver support, something which both manufacturers have now made moves to enact.

NVidia's new 361.75 drivers add add beta support for external dGPU devices over Thunderbolt 3 for all Maxwell Gen2 cards (950 through Titan X) and Maxwell Gen1 cards (750 Ti) and the 750. SLI profiles have also been added and some updates made to overall stability and performance. If you're not running an external GPU, it's likely still worth the update.

The driver does not appear to be forced down through GFE and is available separately through the website.
