AMD GPU Driver Version 17.5.2 Released, Fixes RX 580 Issues

Posted on May 19, 2017

Another day, another GPU driver update. This one comes from AMD, with Radeon Software Crimson ReLive Edition update version 17.5.2. The new version fixes several bugs and also improves Prey’s performance on the RX 580.

Bugfixes include a NieR: Automata crash, long Forza: Horizon 3 load times, an issue with CrossFire systems where the main display adapter could appear disabled in Radeon settings, and a system hang when entering sleep or hibernate with the RX 550.

The most interesting aspect of this patch is AMD’s claim of a 4.5% performance improvement in Prey using the RX 580 8GB over 17.5.1. The fine print reveals their system specs:

- Radeon RX 580 (8GB) graphics card

- Intel i7 5960X CPU

- 16GB DDR4-2666 Mhz system memory

These components combined with performing the tests at 3840x2160 ensure a bottleneck on the GPU during testing, just as we do. An average of 24.5 FPS on version 17.5.1 versus 25.6 FPS on 17.5.2 isn’t exactly buttery smooth, but a 1.1 FPS increase does indeed round up to 4.5%.
