Generic American Consumerism Holiday #57 has arrived, and as such, e-tailers are dumping their inventory at low prices. There's a huge amount of sales through Newegg and Amazon right now, but we've picked-out a few of the more gaming-targeted ones. You can browse additional sales, like other video cards, PSUs, and CPUs, on Newegg over here, Amazon's are here.

Intel i7-4790K CPU ($330): Use promo code EMCASNN22 at checkout to drop this down to $330. The i7-4790K is Intel's flagship Haswell CPU, and although hyperthreading rarely offers advantage in gaming, it does get used for effects processing or heavy multitasking. We've found some games to utilize hyperthreading, as you'll see shortly.

WD Blue 1TB 7200RPM HDD ($50): Normally priced at $55 to $60, WD's Blue 1TB HDD – our go-to recommendation for magnetic storage – is presently available at $50. Use promo code ESCASNN23 at checkout.

MSI GTX 970 4G ($330): The GTX 970, despite the “3.5GB” concerns, is still one of the best-value video cards to-date for gaming. The GTX 970 is a top recommendation of ours for its high-end performance in a mid-range price point.

Sapphire Dual-X R9 280 3GB ($160): After $20 MIR, Sapphire's dual-fan cooled R9 280 is available at $160 through Newegg's sales. At the price, the card is an unbeatable selection for budget rigs, and is something we'd normally only find in mid-range builds.

Crucial MX100 512GB SSD ($190): Use code "EMCASNN95" at checkout to receive an additional discount. Crucial's MX100 -- until its successor -- has been our go-to SSD for gaming and powerusers. Throw the host OS, a few favorite games, and core applications on this SSD, then grab the above HDD for music and media files.

More sales posts to come, as always. Be sure to check out our new Witcher 3 optimization guide.
