New 15.12 AMD WHQL Driver Resolves Several Render Issues

By Published December 19, 2015 at 5:25 pm

AMD's newly-released 15.12 WHQL drivers reportedly improve performance and resolve rendering bugs for several major game titles. Radeon 15.12 drivers, available directly via AMD's site, introduce the first of AMD's renewed dedication to WHQL releases (drivers officially certified by Microsoft). AMD's previous driver launch – a rocky first iteration upon Radeon Settings' succession of CCC – required a hot-fix to resolve GPU overheating issues, something now included in the new 15.12 package.

Other major updates include reduction of Battlefront flickering and render issues with sky and snow, Fallout 4 flickering fixes, Just Cause 3 texture artifacting and corruption, and several “OverDrive” (built-in OC) updates.

A number of known issues still exist with this driver update, not the least of which includes CTDs when running the AMD/Raptr Gaming Evolved overlay in some games. Gaming Evolved, a tool against which we've vocally dissented since its inception (although GVR worked well, before being subsumed by Plays.tv), is supposed to streamline game settings management and offer a 'gaming social network' to users who want more bloat in their system tray.

Discord aside, the 15.12 driver fixes flickering issues and visual artifacts for most of the newest games released this season; we'd recommend an install if playing any of the listed titles. If you're running the first iteration of Radeon Settings, moving to the newest driver is encouraged to ensure no behind-the-scenes GPU roasting is going on.

Steve started GamersNexus back when it was just a cool name, and now it's grown into an expansive website with an overwhelming amount of features. He recalls his first difficult decision with GN's direction: "I didn't know whether or not I wanted 'Gamers' to have a possessive apostrophe -- I mean, grammatically it should, but I didn't like it in the name. It was ugly. I also had people who were typing apostrophes into the address bar - sigh. It made sense to just leave it as 'Gamers.'"

First world problems, Steve. First world problems.
