Halo: Custom Edition for PC to Live On Despite GameSpy

Posted on May 20, 2014

In the ongoing quest to keep you aware of what to do with GameSpy shutting down, we bring you this great news from the creators of Halo. Bungie announced on the 15th that they have a fix in-place for Halo PC and Halo Community Edition.

Not only are both Halo PC and CE getting renewed life in spite of GameSpy's death, but Bungie is giving thanks to the community members who are responsible for keeping the games alive:

“Community member btcc22 has valiantly written a new server-browser application for Bungie to host and support in-game via this patch. Big thanks to community members Technut and kornman00, and btcc22 again, for helping to catalog and investigate these problems.”

With Bungie splitting from Microsoft and no longer officially working with the Halo franchise, it's great to see they still stand by their products. Even more so that the community is active in assisting with patches and bug fixes so that Halo keeps going strong.

Bungie sums up their position perfectly at the end with:

“Bungie believes in creating lasting social experiences, and while we're all enormously excited for the upcoming release of Destiny and hope you'll join us for that ride, we're also gratified by the ongoing enthusiasm for the original Halo, and glad to be able to help keep a good thing going.”
