Ask GN 7: PSU Degradation, CPU Bottlenecks, & Test Methodology

By Published October 12, 2015 at 7:30 pm

Moving to Episode 7 of Ask GN, we're starting to hit a level of consistency – targeting every Monday – and the viewer questions have continued to impress us. This week's questions are among the best we've gotten so far, and that seems to be true week after week.

This show discusses more PCI-e laning topics, dust management, test methodology, CPU bottlenecking, and more. You can find the latest episode of Ask GN below. As always, post comments to the video, in the comments below, or tweet at us (@GamersNexus) for next episode's consideration!

This week's questions are time-stamped below!

0:36 – Mark Rushow: (Paraphrased) “How many lanes are on my motherboard, chipset, and CPU, and how is it allocated?”

5:54 – EZOVERDOSE: (Paraphrased) “Why do reviewers use presets rather than custom settings?”

11:16 – Samuel Clinton: “How to minimize or neutralize dust from getting into the case?”

15:07 – Derek L: “My question is about PSU degradation. If my current setup is using 90% of my 500W PSU, should I replace it sooner rather than later?”

17:34 – utubie24: “Great show as always. Is it true that you need at least a minimum of 24-32GB of system memory to fully take advantage of the 12GB VRAM on the Titan X?”

That's all for this week's show!

Steve Burke

Steve started GamersNexus back when it was just a cool name, and now it's grown into an expansive website with an overwhelming amount of features. He recalls his first difficult decision with GN's direction: "I didn't know whether or not I wanted 'Gamers' to have a possessive apostrophe -- I mean, grammatically it should, but I didn't like it in the name. It was ugly. I also had people who were typing apostrophes into the address bar - sigh. It made sense to just leave it as 'Gamers.'"

First world problems, Steve. First world problems.
