Battlefield 4 Mantle AMD Optimization Patch Delayed; Bugs Abound

Despite recent patches to Battlefield 4, issues within the game are still prevalent on every platform. Issues being experienced have been addressed by DICE on their forums. Courtesy of their post updated on the 20th, known issues are listed below.

All bug reports labeled as “Fix Live” have already been patched. Anything labeled as Fixing/Investigating are issues that should be solved in future patches.

Since launching in October, DICE has dropped between 16-20 patches to fix issues within Battlefield 4. Though EA and DICE have not given any reasons as to why the game is so plagued by bugs, or who exactly is to blame, it's most likely due to the push of the late October release date. Deciding to launch the title in October meant beating-out Activision and Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Ghosts launch date by a full week; Ghosts is the only other big “brand name” FPS to drop this year to compete with Battlefield and is available on the same platforms.

With all the patch issues, DICE has delayed the big patch for PC Battlefield players that implements Mantle, AMD's new programming API that bypasses DirectX and improves draw call performance. Mantle gives developers more direct access to video cards in PCs, making for better overall optimization. Battlefield 4 was on-target to be the first major game to fully implement Mantle and will yield significant performance gains for AMD video cards. The patch – which was intended to come out before the end of this year – has now been postponed and scheduled for January 2014. No exact date has been set, but it is safe to assume it won't be until after all the existing issues have been resolved.
